Description: CD107b, also known as lysosomal-associated membrane protein 2 (LAMP-2), is a heavily glycosylated type I transmembrane protein that constitutes one of the two major sialoglycoproteins on lysosomal membranes that can be used to distinguish lysosomes from other organelles. CD107b is similar in structure to Mac-1 and is expressed primarily on epithelial cells and macrophages in a variety of organs in normal and beige mutant mice.

Description: c-Kit is a 145 kDa transmembrane receptor-type protein tyrosine kinase encoded by the c-Kit proto-oncogene and is the receptor for stem cell factor (SCF). c-Kit acts to regulate a variety of biological responses including cell proliferation, apoptosis, chemotaxis, and adhesion. The amino acid sequence of chicken c-kit shows 63% identity to mouse c-Kit and exhibits similar expression patterns in RNA blot analysis suggesting similar biological roles.

Description: CD5, also known as Lyt-1, is a monomeric type I transmembrane glycoprotein expressed on thymocytes, T lymphocytes, and a subset of B lymphocytes, but not on natural killer (NK) cells. It has been identified as the major ligand of the B-cell antigen CD72. The frequency of CD5+ B cells exhibits strain-dependent variation, and the phenotypic, anatomical, functional, developmental, and pathological characteristics of the CD5+ B cells suggest that they may represent a distinct lineage, known as B-1 cells. Binding of CD5 on the T cell surface can augment alloantigen- or mitogen-induced lymphocyte proliferation and induces increased cytosolic free calcium, IL-2 secretion, and IL-2R expression. It has been proposed that CD5 negatively regulates signal transduction mediated by the T-cell and B-cell receptors.

Description: In the chicken, the CD8 molecule is present in two forms - (i) a homodimer of two α chains and (ii) a heterodimer of an α chain and a β chain. While the vast majority of CD8+ cells in the thymus, spleen, and blood of adult chickens express both CD8α- and CD8β-chains, a relatively large proportion of the CD8+ TCRγδ cells in the spleens of embryos and young chicks express only the α-chain of CD8. Among intestinal epithelial lymphocytes, the major CD8+ T cell populations present in mice are conserved but there is a population of TCRγδ CD8αβ cells in the chicken that is not found in rodents. Chicken CD8 is expressed on approximately 80% of thymocytes, 15% of blood mononuclear cells, and 50% of spleen cells but less than 1% of cells in the bursa and bone marrow. The monoclonal antibody CT-8 recognizes the CD8α chain and has been shown to react to a polymorphic determinant in turkey.

Description: The monoclonal antibody BB6-10A10 stains the following percentages of surface immunoglobulin (sIg) positive cells in porcine lymphoid tissues - 11-15% in peripheral blood, 22-23% in mesenteric lymph nodes, 79-87% in ileal Peyer’s patches (ILPP), 6-17 in spleen, and 0% in thymus. While identification of the antigen(s) that are found predominantly on ILPP B cells and which are recognized by BB6-10A10 is speculative, the antibody appears to react with an immature population of B cells in the follicles of ILPPs and with a subpopulation of sIglow B cells in lymph nodes.

Description: The CD45 antigen is an essential regulator of leukocyte activation and development and is now known to be a protein tyrosine phosphatase, e.g., CD45 is able to dephosphorylate the Src family of protein kinases. This activity is now known to be required for signal transduction induced by T and B cell antigen receptor engagement, cytokine signaling, and Fc receptor stimulation. The functional state of CD45 also has a pronounced effect on lymphocyte development. CD45 exists in multiple forms, such as the restricted variants (CD45R; see companion products 1660, 1665, 1675, 1685, and 1820) and as allelic forms CD45.1 (Ly-5.1) and CD45.2 (Ly-5.2). The former arises as a result of alternative splicing of different exons. The specificity of antibodies to CD45.1 and CD45.2 has been exploited in studies where resolution of donor and recipient cells is essential, such as in gene therapy or bone marrow transplantation. The monoclonal antibody A20 recognizes all mouse leukocytes expressing the CD45.1 allotype.

Description: CD44, also known as phagocytic glycoprotein-1 (Pgp-1), exists as a large number of different isoforms resulting from alternative RNA splicing. The major isoform expressed on lymphocytes, myeloid cells, and erythrocytes is a glycosylated type I transmembrane protein. Other variable isoforms containing glycosaminoglycans have molecular weights ranging from 110 to 250 kDa and are widely expressed on hematopoietic and non-hematopoietic cells. CD44 contributes to the adhesion of leukocytes to endothelial cells, stromal cells, and the extracellular matrix. It also plays a functional role in cell migration, lymphocyte homing, and adhesion during hematopoiesis and lymphocyte activation.

Description: Ly-6C is a member of the Ly-6 multigene family of type V glycophosphatidylinositol-anchored cell surface proteins. It is expressed on bone marrow cells, monocytes/macrophages, neutrophils, endothelial cells, and T-cell subsets. Mice with the Ly-6.2 allotype (e.g., AKR, C57BL, C57BR, C57L, DBA/2, PL, SJL, SWR, 129) have subsets of CD4+Ly-6C+ and CD8+Ly-6C+ cells while Ly-6.1 strains (e.g., A, BALB/c, CBA, C3H/He, DBA/1, NZB) have only CD8+Ly-6C+ lymphocytes. Ly-6C may play a role in the development and maturation of lymphocytes.

Supplier: Southern Biotechnology
Description: BP-1, also known as Ly-51 and 6C3 antigen, is a type II homodimeric transmembrane glycoprotein formed by two disulfide-linked chains of 140 kDa. Originally identified on the surface of pre-B cell lymphomas the cDNA encoding BP-1 has been cloned and found to represent aminopeptidase A. It is expressed at high levels on bone marrow stromal cell lines which support in vitro B lymphopoiesis and on a wide variety of mouse tissues known to possess aminopeptidase activity. Subsets of normal bone marrow pre-B and B cells express low levels of BP-1 which is rapidly upregulated on pre-B cells in the presence of IL-7. The BP-1 marker is commonly used to identify B cells in different stages of development.
