Description: This 20 amino acid peptide binds to the amyloid form of beta-Amyloid (1-40) but not to monomeric beta-Amyloid (1-40). This sequence represents new potential carrier molecules to deliver medicines to amyloid plaques in AD patients and to image plaques in AD brains. The ability to directly target reagents to the amyloid form of the beta-Amyloid peptide may allow the delivery of neuroprotective agents to make amyloid plaques less toxic, the delivery of amyloid-destroying molecules to eliminate plaques, or the delivery of reagents to prevent amyloid plaque formation. This sequence is biotinylated on the N-terminus.

Description: APP (C31): this 31-amino acid peptide corresponds to the C-terminal fragment of the Amyloid Precursor Protein (APP). Caspase cleavage of amyloid beta-protein precursor with the generation of C31 may be involved in the neuronal death associated with Alzheimer disease. The resultant C31 peptide is a potent inducer of apoptosis. This peptide is located in lipid rafts together with the APP-BP1, a binding protein for the intracellular domain of APP.

Description: The native peptide, PLARTLSVAGLPGKK (cat# 22511), is a selective substrate for CaM kinase II and protein kinase C. It is a poor substrate for phosphorylase kinase and is not phosphorylated by myosin light chain kinase. The sequence of PLARTLSVAGLPGKK is homologous to phosphorylation site 2 in glycogen synthase. The relative Vmax/Km ratios of the peptide for different kinases are 100 for CaMK II, 22 for protein kinase C, 2 for phosphorylase kinase, and 0.5 for myosin light chain kinase respectively.

Description: This peptide is Exendin-4 labeled with fluorescein at the Tryptophan residue. FLEX is equipotent to GLP-1(7-36)-amide and exendin-4 as an inhibitor of [125I] GLP-1 binding to the human GLP-1 receptor stably expressed in CHO cells, and maintains full biological potency and efficacy as measured by the stimulation of cAMP accumulation in these cells. FLEX binding to CHO/hGLP-1R membranes results in an increase in fluorescence anisotropy. The binding is specific and saturable (Kd = 2.0 +/- 0.4 nM), and GLP-1(7-36)-amide and Exendin-4 are equipotent inhibitors of FLEX binding to the human GLP-1 receptor. Thus, FLEX is a potent, biologically active ligand that is useful for the study of the binding and functional characteristics of the human GLP-1 receptor.

Description: This peptide is PACAP (1-38) with a Biotin label on its N-terminus. Pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP), a member of the vasoactive intestinal peptide/secretin/glucagon family, has an amino acid sequence identity of 68% with vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP). PACAP38, derived from a 176-amino acid precursor (preproPACAP), is a 38-amino acid peptide discovered as an ovine hypothalamic neuropeptide. The amino acid sequence of PACAP is identical in all mammals, and in species such as chicken, frog, salmon, only 1–3 amino acids are different. It is abundant in both the central and peripheral nervous systems and exerts a variety of effects. PACAP in pancreatic islets may play a parasympathetic and sensory neurotransmitter role. PACAP stimulates insulin secretion from islets in a glucose-dependent manner at femtomolar concentrations, acting as an insulinotropic factor. PACAP and VIP are two multifunctional neuropeptides modulating innate and adaptive immunity. VIP/PACAP protect T cells from activation-induced cell death through down-regulation of Fas ligand. PACAP immunoreactivity has been shown in nerve fibers innervating the intrapancreatic ganglia as well as the islets of Langerhans in pancreas. PACAP (1-38) is more active than VIP in stimulating adenylate cyclase EC50=7 nM.
