Description: Cytosolic and membrane-bound forms of glutathione S-transferase are two distinct supergene families. At present, eight distinct classes of the soluble cytoplasmic mammalian glutathione S-transferases have been identified: alpha, kappa, mu, omega, pi, sigma, theta and zeta. GSTM1 a glutathione S-transferase that belongs to the mu class. The mu class of enzymes functions in the detoxification of electrophilic compounds, including carcinogens, therapeutic drugs, environmental toxins and products of oxidative stress, by conjugation with glutathione.Cytosolic and membrane-bound forms of glutathione S-transferase are encoded by two distinct supergene families. At present, eight distinct classes of the soluble cytoplasmic mammalian glutathione S-transferases have been identified: alpha, kappa, mu, omega, pi, sigma, theta and zeta. This gene encodes a glutathione S-transferase that belongs to the mu class. The mu class of enzymes functions in the detoxification of electrophilic compounds, including carcinogens, therapeutic drugs, environmental toxins and products of oxidative stress, by conjugation with glutathione. The genes encoding the mu class of enzymes are organized in a gene cluster on chromosome 1p13.3 and are known to be highly polymorphic. These genetic variations can change an individual's susceptibility to carcinogens and toxins as well as affect the toxicity and efficacy of certain drugs. Null mutations of this class mu gene have been linked with an increase in a number of cancers, likely due to an increased susceptibility to environmental toxins and carcinogens. Multiple protein isoforms are encoded by transcript variants of this gene.

Description: Dietary fat absorption from the small intestine is facilitated by acyl-CoA:monoacylglycerol transferase (MOGAT) and acyl-CoA:diacylglycerol acyltransferase (DGAT) activities. MOGAT catalyzes the joining of monoacylglycerol and fatty acyl-CoAs to form diacylglycerol.Dietary fat absorption from the small intestine is facilitated by acyl-CoA:monoacylglycerol transferase (MOGAT; EC 2.3.1.22) and acyl-CoA:diacylglycerol acyltransferase (DGAT; see MIM 604900) activities. MOGAT catalyzes the joining of monoacylglycerol and fatty acyl-CoAs to form diacylglycerol (Yen and Farese, 2003 [PubMed 12621063]).

Description: SPTLC2 is a long chain base subunit of serine palmitoyltransferase. Serine palmitoyltransferase, which consists of two different subunits, is the key enzyme in sphingolipid biosynthesis. It catalyzes the pyridoxal-5-prime-phosphate-dependent condensation of L-serine and palmitoyl-CoA to 3-oxosphinganine. Mutations in this gene were identified in patients with hereditary sensory neuropathy type I.This gene encodes a long chain base subunit of serine palmitoyltransferase. Description: TRPC6 Antibody: The mammalian transient receptor potential (TRP) superfamily can be divided into three major families including the "canonical TRP" (TRPC) family. The seven members of this family share the activation through PLC-coupled receptors and have been suggested to be components of receptor-regulated cation channels in different cell types. Furthermore, the members of the TRPC6/6/7 subfamily can be activated by diacylglycerol (DAG) analogs, suggesting a possible mechanism of activation of these channels by PLC-coupled receptors. When expressed in transfected cells, TRPC6 acts as a non-selective store-independent receptor-activated cation channel. It is activated by DAG in a PKC-independent manner and is insensitive to IP3 activation. There is increasing evidence that TRPC6 encodes endogenous DAG-activated receptor-operated cation channels in vivo.

Description: Alpha-1-acid glycoprotein 2 is a secreted protein that belongs to the calycin superfamily, lipocalin family. It is expressed by the liver and secreted in plasma. It appears to function in modulating the activity of the immune system during the acute-phase reaction. It functions as transport protein in the blood stream. It binds various hydrophobic ligands in the interior of its beta-barrel domain. It also binds synthetic drugs and influences their distribution and availability.

Description: Clusterin shares homology with the small heat shock protein family of molecular chaperones. The mature secreted form of the protein is a glycosylated, 80-kDa disulfide-linked heterodimer of alpha and beta subunits (produced by internal cleavage). Clusterin is expressed in virtually all tissues and found in all human fluids. It is involved in numerous physiological processes important for carcinogenesis and tumor growth, including apoptotic cell death, cell cycle regulation, DNA repair, cell adhesion, tissue remodeling, lipid transportation, membrane recycling, and immune system regulation. Clusterin also exists as a nuclear protein. The secreted form of Clusterin has extracellular chaperone and anti-apoptotic activities while the nuclear form acts as a proapoptotic factor.
