Description: The product of this gene belongs to the family of classical tyrosine-specific protein tyrosine phosphatases. Many protein tyrosine phosphatases have been shown to regulate fundamental cellular processes and several are mutated in human diseases. Chromosome 10q contains a segmental duplication resulting in multiple copies of the protein tyrosine phosphatase, non-receptor type 20 gene. The two nearly identical copies are designated as PTPN20A and PTPN20B. A third copy is only partially duplicated and contains a pseudogene, designated as PTPN20C. This gene encodes the more telomeric copy, PTPN20B. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.

Description: L-type calcium channels are composed of five subunits. The protein encoded by this gene represents one of these subunits, gamma, and is one of several gamma subunit proteins. This particular gamma subunit is part of skeletal muscle 1,4-dihydropyridine-sensitive calcium channels and is an integral membrane protein that plays a role in excitation-contraction coupling. This gene is a member of the neuronal calcium channel gamma subunit gene subfamily of the PMP-22/EMP/MP20 family and is located in a cluster with two similar gamma subunit-encoding genes.

Description: Programmed cell death protein 1 is an inhibitory cell surface receptor involved in the regulation of T-cell function during immunity and tolerance. Upon ligand binding, inhibits T-cell effector functions in an antigen-specific manner. Possible cell death inducer, in association with other factors. [UniProt]

Description: Annexin V is an anticoagulant protein that acts as an indirect inhibitor of the thromboplastin-specific complex, which is involved in the blood coagulation cascade. Annexin V competes for phosphatidylserine binding sites (e. g. platelets) with prothrombin or coagulation factors and inhibis the activity of phospholipase A1. Antibodies directed against annexin V are found in patients with a disease called the antiphospholipid syndrome(APS), a thrombophilic disease associated with autoantibodies against phospholipid compounds. Annexin V is used as a probe in the "annexin V affinity assay" to detect cells that have expressed phosphatidylserine on the cell surface, a feature found in apoptosis and other forms of cell death.

Description: Leptin receptor (LEPR) is also known as LEP-R, cluster of differentiation 295 (CD295), OB-R and B219, is a single-transmembrane-domain receptor of the gp130 family of cytokine receptors. Leptin receptor exists as homodimer and binds Leptin with high affinity, thus mediates the biological function of the adipocyte-specific hormone Leptin. LEPR is a receptor for leptin (an adipocyte-specific hormone that regulates body weight), and is involved in the regulation of fat metabolism, as well as in a novel hematopoietic pathway that is required for normal lymphopoiesis. Mutations in this protein have been associated with obesity and pituitary dysfunction. Interaction of leptin and leptin receptor is crucial for body weight and bone mass regulation in mammals through hypothalamic effects on satiety and energy expenditure. Meanwhile, research data supports a leptin receptor activation model based on ligand-induced conformational changes.

Description: Recognizes a homodimeric protein comprised of 50kDa subunits, identified as CD100 (Workshop VI; Code N-L026). It is expressed on majority of haemopoietic cells (B, T, NK and myeloid cells) and is absent from bone marrow, erythrocytes, eosinophils and endothelial cells. Its expression is increased after PHA-activation. CD100 was shown to associate with different partner molecules in T cells such as CD45, a key molecule with protein tyrosine phosphatase activity involved in T-cell transduction, and a Serine kinase. It plays a role in homotypic cell adhesion and in T cell activation.

Description: Lin28 is a RNA-binding protein that belongs to a diverse family of structurally-related transcription factors. Lin28 is found abundantly in embryonic stem cells (ESCs), and to a lesser extent in placenta and testis. Lin28 has been shown to block let-7 microRNA processing and maturation, a necessary step in the differentiation of stem cells and certain cancer cell lines. Together with Sox2, Oct4, and Nanog, Lin28 can induce the reprogramming of primary human fibroblasts to a pluripotent state. Lin28 and other regulatory proteins can be introduced into cells by DNA transfection, viral infection, or microinjection. Protein transduction using TAT fusion proteins represents an alternative methodology for introducing proteins into primary as well as transformed cells. Recombinant human Lin28-TAT is a 24.4 kDa protein containing 222 amino acid residues, including 13- residue C-terminal TAT peptide.

Description: Transcription factor that can activate or repress transcription in response to physiological and pathological stimuli. Binds with high affinity to GC-rich motifs and regulates the expression of a large number of genes involved in a variety of processes such as cell growth, apoptosis, differentiation and immune responses. Highly regulated by post-translational modifications (phosphorylations, sumoylation, proteolytic cleavage, glycosylation and acetylation). Binds also the PDGFR-alpha G-box promoter. May have a role in modulating the cellular response to DNA damage. Implicated in chromatin remodeling. Plays a role in the recruitment of SMARCA4/BRG1 on the c-FOS promoter. Plays an essential role in the regulation of FE65 gene expression.
