Description: Gangliosides are acidic glycosphingolipids that form lipid rafts in the outer leaflet of the cell plasma membrane, especially in neuronal cells in the central nervous system. They participate in cellular proliferation, differentiation, adhesion, signal transduction, cell-to-cell interactions, tumorigenesis and metastasis. The accumulation of gangliosides has been linked to several diseases. Ganglioside GM3 is the most abundant ganglioside in mammals. It is involved in several tumor processes by interacting with receptors. It inhibits epidermal cell growth and blocks insulin receptor activity.

Catalog Number: (76109-296)
Supplier: Bioss
Description: The downstream regulatory element, DRE, acts as a location-dependent gene silencer. DREAM (for DRE-antagonist modulator) is a Ca²⁺ regulated transcriptional repressor that specifically binds to the DRE. DREAM regulates transcription of prodynorphin and c-Fos genes and shows 99% nucleotide homology to the Kv channel-interacting proteins (KChIPs). KChIP family members include KChIP1, which is expressed in brain, KChIP2, which is expressed in heart, brain, and lung, KChIP3 (also designated calsenilin), which is expressed in brain and testis and KChIP4.

Supplier: Enzo Life Sciences
Description: Purified from bovine brain. Contains primarily stearic and nervoic acids. Precursor to ceramide second messengers via the action of sphingomyelinase.

Supplier: Bioss
Description: Functions as a polyspecific organic cation transporter, efficiently transporting many organic cations such as monoamine neurotransmitters 1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium and biogenic amines including serotonin, dopamine, norepinephrine and epinephrine. May play a role in regulating central nervous system homeostasis of monoamine neurotransmitters. May be involved in luminal transport of organic cations in the kidney and seems to use luminal proton gradient to drive organic cation reabsorption. Does not seem to transport nucleoside and nucleoside analogs such as uridine, cytidine, thymidine, adenosine, inosine, guanosine, and azidothymidine. In (PubMed:16873718) adenosine is efficiently transported but in a fashion highly sensitive to extracellular pH, with maximal activity in the pH range 5.5 to 6.5. Glu-206 is essential for the cation selectivity and may function as the charge sensor for cationic substrates. Transport is chloride and sodium-independent but appears to be sensitive to changes in membrane potential. Weakly inhibited by the classical inhibitors of equilibrative nucleoside transport, dipyridamole, dilazep, and nitrobenzylthioinosine. May play a role in the regulation of extracellular adenosine concentrations in cardiac tissues, in particular during ischemia.

Description: Protein NDRG4 is a cytoplasmic protein that may play a role in the early postnatal development and function of neuronal cells. It may be involved in the regulation of mitogenic signalling in vascular smooth muscles cells. Several alternatively spliced transcript variants of this gene have been described, but the full length nature of some of these variants has not been determined. Expressed only in brain and heart. Isoform 1 and isoform 2 are only expressed in brain. Isoform 3 is expressed in both heart and brain. Belongs to the NDRG family.

Description: BRP44 is a 127 amino acid protein belonging to the UPF0041 family. The gene that encodes BRP44 maps to human chromosome 1, which is the largest human chromosome spanning about 260 million base pairs and making up 8% of the human genome. There are about 3,000 genes on chromosome 1, and considering the great number of genes there are also a large number of diseases associated with chromosome 1. Notably, the rare aging disease Hutchinson-Gilford progeria is associated with the LMNA gene which encodes lamin A. When defective, the LMNA gene product can build up in the nucleus and cause characteristic nuclear blebs. The mechanism of rapidly enhanced aging is unclear and is a topic of continuing exploration. The MUTYH gene is located on chromosome 1 and is partially responsible for familial adenomatous polyposis. Stickler syndrome, Parkinsons, Gaucher disease and Usher syndrome are also associated with chromosome 1. A breakpoint has been identified in 1q which disrupts the DISC1 gene and is linked to schizophrenia. Aberrations in chromosome 1 are found in a variety of cancers including head and neck cancer, malignant melanoma and multiple myeloma.
