Antimicrobial peptides are produced by plants and most organisms throughout the animal kingdom including humans. Cecropin A is a 37-residue peptide with antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Bacillus megaterium and Micrococcus luteus, at micromolar concentrations.
