Key Advantages of Phthalate-Free Tubing

phthalate-free tubing engineered for top performance in Masterflex peristaltic pumpsPhthalates are a class of chemicals commonly used as plasticizers in many industrial and consumer products, including tubing. However, phthalates have been linked to a range of health concerns, especially when used in conjunction with food production.

Because of these concerns, many manufacturers have started producing offer phthalate-free tubing, often silicone-based. Switching to phthalate-free tubing is worth considering for a number of other reasons as well:

  • Environmental benefits: Phthalates are not only harmful to human health; they can also have negative effects on the environment. Phthalates are not biodegradable and can accumulate in water and soil, potentially causing harm to wildlife and ecosystems.
  • Improved performance: Phthalate-free tubing has been shown to perform just as well as, if not better than, tubing containing phthalates.
  • Regulatory compliance: The use of phthalates is regulated in many countries, including the United States and the European Union. Switching to phthalate-free tubing can help ensure that you are in compliance with these regulations.

Other advantages of our phthalate-free tubing:

  • It’s our most chemical-resistant tubing.
  • It’s resistant to corrosives, solvents, and oils at elevated temperature.
  • It boasts low gas permeability.

Our Phthalate Free Tubing Selection

Masterflex® partnered with Saint-Gobain to develop non-DEHP, phthalate free tubing to withstand the rigors of peristaltic pump use. This tubing uses:

  • A safe, effective plasticizer, derived from plant extracts
  • 100% free of phthalates, including DEHP
  • Compliant with new global regulatory requirements—including European REACH Regulations, US FDA regulations, California Proposition 65, Japan’s Food Sanitation Law, and many others
  • Proven to maintain the same level of high performance.

This collaboration resulted in the development of the following tubing formulations for Masterflex.
