Description: TRF2 is a ubiquitously expressed protein that is implicated in the control of telomere length. TRF2, like TRF1, contains a Myb-related DNA binding motif. It binds to duplex TTAGGG repeats and is localized to all human telomeres in metaphase chromosomes. TRF2 is thought to protect chromosome ends by maintaining the correct structure at telomere termini. The use of mutant forms of TRF2 has implicated a role for TRF2 in the prevention of senescence in primary human cells. Recently, it has been shown that inhibition of TRF2 resulted in apoptosis in a subset of mammalian cell types.

Description: The subtilisin-like Prohormone Convertase (PC) family is a group of cellular enzymes that cleave most prohormones and neuropeptide precursors. Numerous other cellular proteins, some viral proteins, and bacterial toxins that are transported by the constitutive secretory pathway are also targeted for maturation by PCs. PC family members share structural similarities, which include a heterogeneous ~10 kDa amino-terminal proregion, a highly conserved ~55 kDa subtilisin-like catalytic domain, and carboxyl-terminal domain that is heterogeneous in length and sequence. These enzymes become catalytically active following proregion cleavage within the appropriate cellular compartment. The subcellular localization of PC family members varies. Immunolocalization studies show that PC1 is found in the perinuclear region as well as the trans-Golgi network, whereas PC2 can be found in the trans-Golgi network as well as diffusely distributed in the peripheral cytoplasm.

Description: This gene encodes a tumor suppressor protein that acts as an antagonist of the Wnt signaling pathway. It is also involved in other processes including cell migration and adhesion, transcriptional activation, and apoptosis. Defects in this gene cause familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP), an autosomal dominant pre-malignant disease that usually progresses to malignancy. Disease-associated mutations tend to be clustered in a small region designated the mutation cluster region (MCR) and result in a truncated protein product. [provided by RefSeq]
