Description: The chimaeric peptide galantide is a high-affinity ligand for galanin receptors in membranes from rat hypothalamus, hippocampus, and spinal cord. There it reversibly blocks the neuronal actions of galanin in a dose-dependent manner. The peptide also reverses the galanin-mediated inhibition of insulin release from mouse pancreatic islets. Antagonists such as galantide are therefore of potential importance both as therapeutic agents and in studies on the physiological roles of galanin.

Supplier: Bachem Americas
Description: Galanin-like peptide (GALP) is a 60 amino acid neuropeptide first isolated from the porcine hypothalamus and subsequently also identified in rats and humans. GALP exhibits a higher affinity (~18-fold) for the GALR2 receptor compared to the GALR1 receptor, whereas galanin is relatively non-selective. Investigations of the physiological role of GALP revealed that GALP induces food intake with a ten times higher orexigenic activity than galanin. Furthermore, GALP could affect the emotional state in the CNS. Therefore, GALP represents an orexigenic and anxiogenic peptide.

Description: The central E region of fibrin contains two sets of polymerization knobs, A and B, that are cryptic in fibrinogen but become exposed after thrombin cleavage of fibrinopeptide A (FpA) and fibrinopeptide B (FpB) from the N-terminus of the Aα- and Bβ-chains, respectively. The location of the binding holes and possible models for knob-hole interactions are known from X-ray crystallographic studies using synthetic peptide analogs of knobs A and B. When fibrinogen fragment D and double-D are crystallized in the presence of both peptide analogs, the knob A peptide mimic H-Gly-Pro-Arg-Pro-NH₂ (GPRP-amide, H-1998) forms H-bond interactions with residues γ364Asp, γ330Asp, γ329Gln, and γ340His found in hole a. In the same manner, the knob B peptide mimic H-Gly-His-Arg-Pro-NH₂ (GHRP-amide, H-7318) interacts with residues Bβ397Glu, Bβ398Asp, and Bβ432Asp in hole b.

Description: The FRET substrate Dabcyl-RGVVNASSRLA-Edans has been synthesized to develop a fluorescence-based assay of human cytomegalovirus proteinase. It is cleaved specifically at the Ala-Ser bond thereby liberating the C-terminal peptide-EDANS fragment from the proximity quenching effect of the DABCYL group. This represents the first fluorescence-based assay of the herpes virus proteases and permits the characterization of potential inhibitors. Cleavage yields the N-terminal fragment H-2442.
