Supplier: Rockland Immunochemical
Description: Two distinct signaling pathways activate the host innate immunity against viral infection. One pathway is reliant on members of the Toll-like receptor (TLR) family while the other uses the RNA helicase RIG-I as a receptor for intracellular viral double-stranded RNA as a trigger for the immune response. VISA is a mitochondrial membrane protein that was identified as a critical component in the IFN-b signaling pathways that recruits IRF-3 to RIG-I, leading to its activation and that of NF-kB. VISA is also thought to interact with other components of the innate immune pathway such as the TLR adapter protein TRIF, TRAF2 and TRAF6. VISA also interacts with the IKKa, IKKb and IKKe kinases through its C-terminal region. Cleavage of this region by the Hepatitis C virus (HCV) protease allows HCV to escape the host immune system. At least three isoforms of VISA are known to exist.

Description: The N-deacetylase/N-sulfotransferase (heparan glucosaminyl) 2 (NDST2) protein, also known as N-heparan sulfate sulfotransferase 2, and the highly related protein NDST1 have key roles in the sulfation of heparan sulfate proteoglycans, molecules that are present of cell surfaces and the extracellular matrix (1,2). NDST1 and NDST2 are dispensable for mesodermal differentiation into osteoblasts but necessary for induction of adipocytes and neural cells (3).

Supplier: Rockland Immunochemical
Description: TBC1D1 is the founding member of a family of proteins sharing a 180- to 200-amino acid TBC domain and presumed to have a role in regulating cell growth and differentiation. These proteins share significant homology with TRE2/USP6, yeast Bub2, and CDC16. TBC1D1 and TBC1D4 (AS160) have been demonstrated to be Rab GAPs (GTPase-activating proteins) that link upstream to Akt and phosphoinositide 3-kinase and downstream to Rabs involved in trafficking of GLUT4 vesicles. TBC1D1 regulates insulin-mediated GLUT4 translocation through its GAP activity, and is a likely Akt substrate. Mutations in the Tbc1d1 gene lead to some cases of severe human obesity.

Supplier: Enzo Life Sciences
Description: Stats (Signal transducers and activators of transcription) are a family of cytoplasmic latent transcription factors that are activated to regulate gene expression in response to a large number of extracellular signaling polypeptides including cytokines, interferons, and growth factors. After phosphorylation by JAK tyrosine kinases, Stats enter the nucleus to regulate transcription of many different genes.

Supplier: Rockland Immunochemical
Description: The human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) particle consists of an envelope, a core and the region between the two termed matrix (1). The HIV-1 Gag protein is a late structural protein that contains four proteins: matrix (p17), capsid (p24), nucleocapsid (p7) and the p6 protein (2). The p24 constitutes the major core component of the virus and shows high degree of sequence conservation among HIV isolates. The Gag p24 has been used as an integral part of multicomponent HIV-1 vaccines (3).

Supplier: Enzo Life Sciences
Description: EIF-2α, also known as eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2α, promotes the binding of the initiator tRNA to the 40S ribosomal subunits and controls translational rates via phosphorylation/dephosphorylation mechanisms. The double-stranded RNA (dsRNA)-activated protein kinase (PKR) provides an important control in the regulation of protein synthesis initiation through the phosphorylation of eIF-2α. Phosphorylated eIF-2α inhibits cell growth and induces apoptosis. Phosphorylation of eIF-2α occurs under a variety of conditions including viral infection, apoptosis, nutrient deprivation, heme-deprivation, and certain stresses. EIF-2 exists as a heterotrimeric protein composed of 3 nonidentical subunits, alpha (36 kDa), beta (38 kDa), and gamma (52 kDa).

Description: The Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats (CRISPR) and CRISPR Associated (Cas) system was discovered in bacteria as a defense against foreign DNA, even being believed to act as a sort of prokaryotic immune system. The Cas9 protein is becoming a a useful tool in the field of genomic editing for its ability to induce site-directed double strand breaks in DNA. It can cleave almost any sequence complementary to the guide RNA and has recently been used for modifying the genome of human embryos for the first time.

Description: BICD2 is the second human homolog discovered to the Drosophila Bicaudal-D protein that forms part of the cytoskeleton and mediates the correct sorting of mRNAs for oocyte- and axis-determining factors during oogenesis. Similar to the highly homologous protein BICD1, BICD2 can bind to dynein-dynactin complex, primarily through the dynamitin subunit of dynactin. The C-terminus of BICD2 targets the protein to the Golgi complex while the N-terminal domain of BICD2 co-immunoprecipitates with cytoplasmic dynein, suggesting BICD2 plays a role in the dynein-dynactin interaction on the surface of membranous organelles. Mice engineered to overexpress the BICD2 amino terminal domain in neurons developed amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)-like features such as Golgi fragmentation, neurofilament swelling in proximal axons, etc., suggesting that impaired dynein/dynactin function may explain some of the pathological features observed in ALS patients.

Description: The coiled-coil domain is a common protein motif that is often involved in protein oligomerization and is found in proteins such as transcription factors and intermediate filaments. One such protein is CCDC134, a recently identified secretory protein that has been found to inhibit the transcriptional activity of the Elk1 protein. Overexpression CCDC134 also inhibited the phosphorylation of Erk and JNK/SAPK but not p38 MAPK, while specific siRNA against CCDC134 activated Elk1 transcriptional activity and the phosphorylation of Erk and JNK/SAPK, suggesting a potential inhibiting role of CCDC134 in MAPK-mediated Elk1 transcription. CCDC134 is widely expressing in normal adult tissues, tumors, and cell lines.
