Description: The p53 tumor-suppressor gene integrates numerous signals that control cell life and death; loss of its functions contributes to the development of most cancers. CDIP is a novel pro-apoptotic target gene whose inhibition abrogates p53-mediated apoptotic responses. Overexpression of CDIP induced apoptosis in transfected cells while siRNA suppression of caspase-8 mRNA blocked this CDIP-induced apoptosis, indicating that the CDIP-dependent apoptosis pathway proceeds through extrinsic cell death pathway. CDIP may thus represent a novel target for drug design to maximize p53 response and sensitize tumor cells to cancer therapy. Multiple isoforms of CDIP are known to exist.

Description: The ICRF44 antibody reacts with human CD11b, also known as integrin alpha M. This 165-170 kDa cell surface glycoprotein is part of a family of integrin receptors that mediate adhesion between cells (cell-cell) and components of the extracellular matrix, e.g. fibrinogen (cell-matrix). In addition, integrins are active signaling receptors which recruit leukocytes to inflammatory sites and promote cell activation. Complete, functional integrin receptors consist of distinct combinations of integrin chains which are differentially expressed. Integrin alpha M (CD11b) assembles with Integrin beta-2 (CD18) into a receptor known as Macrophage Antigen-1 (Mac-1) or complement receptor type 3 (CR3). Description: Alpha-crystallins composed of alpha A (~20 kDa) and alpha B (~20 kDa) subunits, are major water-soluble proteins accounting for almost 50% of total protein in the mammalian transparent eye lens and they are also found in a variety of other tissues. The two other crystallin families, beta and gamma, are homologous to each other but not to the alpha family or the sHsp's. Alpha-crystallins are also referred to as small heat shock proteins, since they are induced by increased temperature in a variety of organisms. The alpha-crystallins have sequence homology as well as structural and functional similarities with the small Hsp's such as Hsp25/27. Most small heat shock proteins have four common structural and functional features: (i) molecular weight between 12 and 43kDa; (ii) the formation of large oligomeric complexes composed of alphaA-crystallin, alphaB-crystallin and Hsp25/27; (iii) the moderately conserved alpha-crystallin domain in the central region of the protein; and (iv) molecular chaperone activity.
