Description: The monoclonal antibody DX5 reacts with CD49b, also known as very late antigen-2 (VLA-2) and α2 integrin. The antibody stains the majority of NK cells and a small subpopulation of T cells in all mouse strains tested (e.g., A/J, AKR, BALB/c, C3H/HeJ, C57BL/6, C57BL/10, C57BR, C58, CBA/Ca, CBA/J, DBA/1, DBA/2, SJL, SWR). Three-color flow cytometry analysis has revealed that most cells that express NK-1.1 (NKR-P1C) also express CD49b. However, small subsets of DX5+NK-1.1- and DX5-NK-1.1+ cells can be found, especially among the CD3+ population of T lymphocytes. NK cells cultured in the presence of IL-2 progressively lose reactivity with DX5 as a consequence of cellular proliferation. Therefore, DX5 can be used to define functionally distinct subsets of murine NK cells. The monoclonal antibody DX5 has not been demonstrated to have activating or blocking activity.

Description: CD45R, also known as B220, a member of the protein tyrosine phosphate family and a major cell surface glycoprotein, represents a restricted form of the CD45 family which primarily recognizes only cells of B-lineage from pro-B cell through mature B lymphocytes and prior to the availability of anti-CD19 monoclonal antibodies was commonly used as a pan B-cell marker. It also reacts with certain activated T cells as well as non-MHC-restricted lytically active lymphokine-activated killer (LAK) cells. In vivo administration of RA3-6B2 has been shown to affect differentiation of both T and B cells in normal mice and reduce the level of anti-DNA antibodies and lymphadenopathies in MRL/lpr mice.

Description: Keratins are a family of intermediate filament proteins that assemble into filaments through forming heterodimers of one type I keratin (keratins 9 to 23) and one type II keratin (keratins 1-8). The two keratin types share only 30% sequence homology. Keratins demonstrate tissue- and differentiation-specific expression profiles. Cytokeratin 18 is a type I intermediate filament protein that exists as a heterotetramer composed of two type I and two type II keratins. Cytokeratin 18 is expressed in all simple type epithelia and basal cells of many squamous and non-epidermal epithelia and is often co-expressed with cytokeratin 8. Tissues from the gastrointestinal tract, respiratory tract, and urogenital tract as well as endocrine and exocrine tissues and mesothelial cells are positive for cytokeratin 18.

Description: CD5, also known as Lyt-1, is a monomeric type I transmembrane glycoprotein expressed on thymocytes, T lymphocytes, and a subset of B lymphocytes, but not on natural killer (NK) cells. It has been identified as the major ligand of the B-cell antigen CD72. The frequency of CD5+ B cells exhibits strain-dependent variation, and the phenotypic, anatomical, functional, developmental, and pathological characteristics of the CD5+ B cells suggest that they may represent a distinct lineage, known as B-1 cells. Binding of CD5 on the T cell surface can augment alloantigen- or mitogen-induced lymphocyte proliferation and induces increased cytosolic free calcium, IL-2 secretion, and IL-2R expression. It has been proposed that CD5 negatively regulates signal transduction mediated by the T-cell and B-cell receptors.
