Catalog Number: 10795-480
Supplier: Genetex

Description: Zinc-finger proteins contain DNA-binding domains and have a wide variety of functions, most of which encompass some form of transcriptional activation or repression. ZDHHC1 (zinc finger, DHHC-type containing 1), also known as ZNF377 (zinc finger protein 377) or C16orf1, is a 485 amino acid multi-pass membrane protein that contains one DHHC-type zinc finger. Expressed in fetal heart, lung and kidney and also present in adult lung and pancreas, ZDHHC1 functions as a palmitoyltransferase that catalyzes the conversion of palmitoyl-CoA and protein-cysteine to S-palmitoyl protein and CoA. Like ZDHHC1, ZDHHC5, ZDHHC6, ZDHHC7 and ZDHHC18 each contain one DHHC-type zinc finger through which they convey palmitoyltransferase activity against a broad range of substrates, including H-Ras, SNAP 25 and GABAA R proteins.

Description: The tripartite motif (TRIM) family of proteins are characterized by a conserved TRIM domain that includes a coiled-coil region, a B-box type zinc finger, one RING finger and three zinc-binding domains. TRIM17 (tripartite motif-containing 17), also known as RBCC, terf or RNF16, is a 477 amino acid protein that contains one RING-type zinc finger, one SPRY domain and one B box-type zinc finger. Expressed nearly exclusively in testis, TRIM17 belongs to the TRIM family and, based on its functional domains, may play a role in transcriptional regulation events. The gene encoding TRIM17 maps to human chromosome 1, which spans 260 million base pairs, contains over 3,000 genes and comprises nearly 8% of the human genome. Chromosome 1 houses a large number of disease-associated genes, including those that are involved in familial adenomatous polyposis, Stickler syndrome, Parkinson’s disease, Gaucher disease, schizophrenia and Usher syndrome. Aberrations in chromosome 1 are found in a variety of cancers, including head and neck cancer, malignant melanoma and multiple myeloma.

Description: Zinc-finger proteins contain DNA-binding domains and have a wide variety of functions, most of which encompass some form of transcriptional activation or repression. ZNF206 (zinc finger protein 206), also known as ZSCAN10 (zinc finger and SCAN domain containing 10), is a 725 amino acid protein that contains one SCAN box domain and 14 C2H2-type zinc fingers. Localized to the nucleus, ZNF206 is thought to play a role in transcriptional regulation events. The gene encoding ZNF206 maps to human chromosome 16, which encodes over 900 genes and comprises nearly 3% of the human genome. The GAN gene is located on chromosome 16 and, with mutation, may lead to giant axonal neuropathy, a nervous system disorder characterized by increasing malfunction with growth. The rare disorder Rubinstein-Taybi syndrome is also associated with chromosome 16, as is Crohn's disease, which is a gastrointestinal inflammatory condition.

Description: Zinc-finger proteins contain DNA-binding domains characterized by the unique role of zinc and have a wide variety of functions such as transcriptional activation or repression. The protein folding and the DNA binding ability are governed by the coordination of a zinc ion. As a member of the MYM (myeloproliferative and mental retardation) gene family, ZMYM1 is widely expressed in different tissues in eukaryotes under several forms derived by alternative splicing. While its function remains unknown, the related protein ZMYM2 has been shown to associate with and stabilize the LSD1-CoREST-HDAC1 (LCH) complex of chromatin through its MYM-type zinc fingers, thereby enhancing the transcriptional repression of several genes, suggesting that ZMYM1 may play a similar role.

Description: Early Growth Response Protein 1 (EGR1, Krox-24 protein, nerve growth factor-induced protein A, Transcription factor ETR103, Zinc finger protein 225) belongs to the EGR family of C2H2-type zinc-finger proteins. It is a nuclear protein and functions as a transcriptional regulator. The products of target genes it activates are required for differentitation and mitogenesis. Studies suggest this is a cancer suppresor gene. The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the EGR family of C2H2-type zinc-finger proteins. It is a nuclear protein and functions as a transcriptional regulator. The products of target genes it activates are required for differentitation and mitogenesis. Studies suggest this is a cancer suppresor gene. Publication Note: This RefSeq record includes a subset of the publications that are available for this gene. Description: The GDNF-inducible zinc finger protein 1 (GZF1) is a sequence-specific transcriptional repressor with a BTB/POZ domain and ten zinc finger motifs whose expression is required for renal branching morphogenesis during kidney development. GZF1 binds to the 5'regulatory region of the homeodomain protein HOXA10, suggesting that GZF1 may play a role in morphogenesis other than kidney development. Recent experiments have indicated that GZF1 associates with nucleolin and this association is mediated by the first four zinc finger motifs of GZF1. It is thought that Nucleolin modulates the subcellular localization of GZF1 as well as its transcriptional repressor activity.

Description: ZIC4 is a member of the ZIC family of C2H2-type zinc finger proteins. Members of this family are important during development, and have been associated with X-linked visceral heterotaxy and holoprosencephaly type 5. This gene is closely linked to the gene encoding zinc finger protein of the cerebellum 1, a related family member on chromosome 3. Description: The tripartite motif (TRIM) family of proteins are characterized by a conserved TRIM domain that includes a coiled-coil region, a B-box type zinc finger, one RING finger and three zinc-binding domains. TRIM7 (tripartite motif-containing 7), also known as RNF90 or GNIP, is a 511 amino acid protein that belongs to the TRIM family and contains one RING-type zinc finger, one B box-type zinc finger and one SPRY domain. Expressed in placenta and skeletal muscle and present at lower levels in brain, heart and pancreas, TRIM7 localizes to both the cytoplasm and the nucleus where it exists as dimers and is thought to participate in the initiation of glycogen synthesis. Multiple isoforms of TRIM7 exist due to alternative splicing events.
