Description: Zinc-finger proteins bind nucleic acids and play important roles in various cellular functions, including cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. This gene encodes a zinc finger protein, and belongs to the krueppel C2H2-type zinc-finger protein family. It may be involved in transcriptional regulation. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified. (provided by RefSeq, May 2010).

Description: Ubiquitination is an important mechanism through which three classes of enzymes act in concert to target short-lived or abnormal proteins for destruction. The three classes of enzymes involved in ubiquitination are the ubiquitin-activating enzymes (E1s), the ubiquitin-conjugating enzymes (E2s) and the ubiquitin-protein ligases (E3s). ZNRF2 (zinc and ring finger 2), also known as RNF202, is a 242 amino acid peripheral membrane protein that contains one RING-type zinc finger and localizes to the lysosome, as well as the endosome and the cell junction. Expressed at high levels in brain tissue, ZNRF2 is thought to function as an E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase that may be involved in the establishment and maintenance of neuronal transmission and plasticity. Upon DNA damage, ZNRF2 is subject to phosphorylation, probably by ATR or ATM.

Description: ZNF212 belongs to the C2H2-type zinc finger gene family. The zinc finger proteins are involved in gene regulation and development, and are quite conserved throughout evolution. Like this gene product, a third of the zinc finger proteins containing C2H2 fingers also contain the KRAB domain, which has been found to be involved in protein-protein interactions.

Description: The RING-type zinc finger motif is present in a number of viral and eukaryotic proteins and is made of a conserved cysteine-rich domain that is able to bind two zinc atoms. Proteins that contain this conserved domain are generally involved in the ubiquitination pathway of protein degradation. RNF141 (ring finger protein 141), also known as ZFP26 or ZNF230, is a 230 amino acid protein that contains one RING-type zinc finger. Expressed as two isoforms (isoform 1 and isoform 2) due to alternative splicing events, RNF141 is thought to function as a transcription factor during spermatogenesis. While isoform 2 is expressed in brain, heart, pancreas, kidney and skeletal muscle, isoform 1 is expressed primarily in testis, suggesting that isoform 1 functions during spermatogenesis. In addition, RNF141 is not expressed in azoospermic (infertile) men, further implicating an important role for RNF141 in testis development and male fertility.

Description: Zinc-alpha-2-glycoprotein (AZGP1) is a soluble protein normally found in body fluids, functions as a lipid mobilizing factor . It is known to be expressed in the secretory epithelia of the liver, lung, breast, GI tract and sweat glands, sharing significant structural similarity with the class I major histocompatibility complex (MHC) antigens . AZGP1 is involved in carcinogenesis and differentiation. Altered expression of AZGP1 has been reported in breast cancer, prostate cancer and lung adenocarcinoma, hepatocellular carcinoma, pancreatic carcinoma and oral tumors .
