CD94 is expressed on the surface of NK cells, NK T cells, and some memory phenotype CD8+ cells. When CD94 is paired with NKG2A, C, or E subunit, it binds the nonclassical MHC class Ib molecule Qa-1b and results in a CD94high population by flow cytometry. Approximately half of NK cells do not express NKG2A, C or E; these cells express CD94 on the surface in a form that does not bind Qa-1b and is believed to be nonfunctional, producing a CD94low population by flow cytometry. CD94 is thought to play a role in the adhesion and activation of the NK cell lineage.

Description: In the chicken, the CD8 molecule is present in two forms - (i) a homodimer of two α chains and (ii) a heterodimer of an α chain and a β chain. While the vast majority of CD8+ cells in the thymus, spleen, and blood of adult chickens express both CD8α- and CD8β-chains, a relatively large proportion of the CD8+ TCRγδ cells in the spleens of embryos and young chicks express only the α-chain of CD8. Among intestinal epithelial lymphocytes, the major CD8+ T cell populations present in mice are conserved but there is a population of TCRγδ CD8αβ cells in the chicken that is not found in rodents. Chicken CD8 is expressed on approximately 80% of thymocytes, 15% of blood mononuclear cells, and 50% of spleen cells but less than 1% of cells in the bursa and bone marrow. The monoclonal antibody CT-8 recognizes the CD8α chain and has been shown to react to a polymorphic determinant in turkey.

Description: Murine CD38, a type II transmembrane glycoprotein, is a bifunctional ectoenzyme capable of catabolizing nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) to cyclic ADP-ribose (cADPR), and then hydrolyzing cADPR to adenosine diphosphoribose (ADPR). It is expressed at high levels on the surface of peripheral B-lineage cells and at low density on germinal center B cells from unimmunized mice. It has also been reported to be expressed at moderate levels on NK cells, a proportion of peripheral T cells, and a subpopulation of thymocytes which are mostly TCRαβ+, CD4-, CD8-. Description: CD5, also known as Lyt-1, is a monomeric type I transmembrane glycoprotein expressed on thymocytes, T lymphocytes, and a subset of B lymphocytes, but not on natural killer (NK) cells. It has been identified as the major ligand of the B-cell antigen CD72. The frequency of CD5+ B cells exhibits strain-dependent variation, and the phenotypic, anatomical, functional, developmental, and pathological characteristics of the CD5+ B cells suggest that they may represent a distinct lineage, known as B-1 cells. Binding of CD5 on the T cell surface can augment alloantigen- or mitogen-induced lymphocyte proliferation and induces increased cytosolic free calcium, IL-2 secretion, and IL-2R expression. It has been proposed that CD5 negatively regulates signal transduction mediated by the T-cell and B-cell receptors.
