Hexanes, Reagent, ACS, is a mixture of hexane isomers plus methylcyclopentane and is a colorless liquid. It is a used as non-polar solvent since it is low cost, largely unreactive, and relatively safe nature and can be found in specialized glue, as a degreasing agent and to extract cooking oil from seeds. It is used in the laboratory to remove or extract oil and grease contaminant from soil and water sample for analysis. Because it cannot easily be deprotonated it is often used for reactions that involve very strong bases. As an ACS grade Reagent, Hexanes manufactured hexanes is used as the quality standard against which other substances are graded and has met the toughest regulatory standards for quality and pureness
