Purifier® HEPA-Filtered Enclosures, Labconco®
Fume Hoods and Enclosures Laminar Flow Cabinets
These enclosures provide practical, economical protection of operator and environment for applications that generate fine dusts or aerosols but do not provide product protection

During operation, room air is drawn from around the operator, through the work area, and into the HEPA filter. A 99.99% efficient HEPA filter removes all particles >=0.3µm. The patented Clean-Sweep™ airfoil allows air to sweep the work surface, while the patented rear baffle with zones of perforations promotes horizontal laminar airflow to maximize containment. An upper containment sash foil bleeds air into the enclosure to direct contaminants away from the operator’s breathing zone, and side-entry airfoils also enhance containment. The upper dilution air supply introduces room air at the top of the sash to dilute concentrations in the upper chamber and bathes the back of the sash with clean air. A front-mounted Minihelic® pressure gauge helps determine filter loading, and an optional built-in Guardian™ airflow monitor continuously monitors airflow and alerts the user to velocities outside of the preset range through LED and alarm indicators. Air can be exhausted back into the room to conserve conditioned room air or outside with the addition of a remote blower and exhaust adapter. All contaminated air ducts are under negative air pressure, which is an intrinsically safe design.

The upper cabinet and back are constructed of corrosion-resistant, epoxy-coated steel. The clear sash is 0.6cm (1/4") thick safety glass angled at 10° for low glare and easy viewing. It pivots from an operating position of 24cm (97/16") to a loading and cleaning position of 50.8cm (20"). A speed control regulates the variable speed built-in blower, and a low discharge volume reduces cross currents and provides quiet operation. In addition, side wiping seals help contain contaminants. The safety glass side panels provide a naturally illuminated work area, and each enclosure comes with standard fluorescent lighting. Front-mounted light and blower switches are convenient to reach, and utility ports allow passage of tubing and electrical cords.

Base stands and solid epoxy dished work surfaces (recommended for operation) are available. Base stands are made of durable 4.4cm (13/4") thick, tubular, glacier white epoxy-coated steel and are adjustable in height from 69.9–85.1cm (271/2–331/2") in 2.5cm (1") increments. Stands with fixed feet come with leveling feet for use on uneven floor surfaces. Stands with casters feature 12.7cm (5") diameter toe-locking casters with bearings for quiet operation. The accessory shelf for telescoping base stands hooks onto the lower rear horizontal cross member of the stand for miscellaneous accessory and apparatus placement. Hydraulic stand height is infinitely adjustable from 64.8–85.1cm (251/2–331/2"). Height adjustments can be made any time on hydraulic stands. A caster kit adds mobility to the hydraulic lift base stand. The utility shelf kit (82010-714) has three epoxy-coated steel shelves that can hold a printer, utensils, and other miscellaneous supplies. Bottle holder accommodates a squirt bottle or similar round containers, and has a 7.6cm (3") diameter opening. Tissue holder holds wipers in an upside down position for easy dispensing. They attach to the rear baffle perforations of the enclosure. Trace odor carbon filters for organic solvents, formaldehyde, ammonia, and amines trap non-volatile odors and vapors from samples or small chemical quantities. Filters are installed at the top of the enclosure.

Each enclosure is biological containment verified per NSF Standard Number 49 Personnel Protection Test and ASHRAE 110-1995 conformity tested. The 115V enclosures are ETL and ETL-C listed with CAN/CSA C22.2 No. 1010.1 conformity. The 230V models are CE marked.

Typical applications may include preparing media, weighing powders, asbestos manipulation, handling of suspicious mail, handling pollen, and other general microbiology procedures.
