For overhead stirring of viscous samples, or for the dispersion of delicate solids in solution, nothing matches the power and efficiency of the Tornado™ Overhead Stirring Station. Compatible with all leading brands of overhead stirrers, it evenly distributes high-torque stirring to all flasks from 100 to 250 ml in the Carousel 6 Plus™ Reaction Stations.

At its most powerful, the Tornado™ can stir reaction mixtures of up to 10,000 cps at 500 rpm. It can also gently and efficiently disperse delicate solids or resins in low-viscosity solutions. A 'pinch-grip' mechanism enables fast and easy removal/exchange of the PTFE stirrer shafts, and its unique stirrer sealing system permits usage under an inert atmosphere.

The Tornado™ integrates with Carousel 6 to provide heated and stirred reactions. It offers rapid heating to 180 °C (356 °F), with water cooled reflux, and perform reactions under an inert atmosphere. The unit accepts 50, 100 and 250 ml round bottom flasks. Through the use of a single overhead stirrer, the unit allows users to save both space and money, compared to multiple set-ups. The two-speed drive is designed for use with both high and low viscosity samples. A polycarbonate safety guard and optional clamp/stand are available for added stability during operation. The Tornado™ works with all leading brands of overhead stirrers, and is easy to operate and set up with minimal training time.

A range of PTFE stirrer shafts have been designed for use with the Tornado™. The centrifugal stirrer shafts will fit into any one of the 100mL and 250mL flasks. The anchor and propeller stirrer shafts have been specifically designed to fit into wide neck flasks.

The system accommodates a volume range of 20 to 150 ml and offers two gear selections (1:1 and 2:1). The operating temperature range is ambient to 180 °C (356 °F). It fits flasks of 100 and/or 250 ml (round bottom, with and without sidearms, baffled and wide neck styles).

Ordering information: The Tornado™ IS6 system includes drive unit, 6× stirrer guide mechanisms, stirring motor coupling, stirring motor clamp, and safety shield only. The Tornado™ IS6 system can only be used in conjunction with a 6-place carousel reaction station. When ordering the Tornado™ IS6 Overhead Stirring Station please request a formal quotation. In order to purchase the complete system, a series of component items must be ordered. The system is customized with each order. Suggested assembly includes Carousel 6 Plus™ Reaction Station, Tornado™ Overhead Stirrer Station, stand with base, and support rods. Finalize the system by choosing one item from each of the following: 1) Heidolph magnetic stirring hotplate, 2) One of two temperature controllers (based on hotplate selection), 3) Additional rod and extension for controller attachment (depending on controller selection), 4) Reflux tubes, 5) Wide neck flasks, 6) Tubing (if application requires inert gas), 7) Silicone seals for PTFE caps, 8) Stirrer shafts (six required, one per flask), 9) Heidolph overhead stirrer. One of each must be ordered to complete the Tornado™ system. Please contact a VWR sales representative to fully customize a system.
