Animal free galactose oxidase purified lyophilized has been purified from Fusarium graminearum (previously misclassified as Dactylium dendroides). This is a lyophilized powder using sodium phosphate and sucrose as stabilizers.
Galactose oxidase is part of the oxioreductases family, and is a free radical enzyme that is unusually stable as compared to other protein free radicals. Galactose oxidase is useful for applications like bioanalysis (quanifying biomolecules using oxygen detection, colorimetric detection and cell labeling), organic synthesis (acting as a catalyst in synthesizing aldehydes and carboxylic acids from primary alcohols), and biometric compounds (developing models that mimic the structure and function of galactose oxidase), among others.
