Egeria najas and Egeria densa (formerly Elodea densa) are popular aquarium plants that help aerate the tank to help supply oxygen to fish and pull unwanted nitrogen from the water. They have the added benefit of being a very useful plant to teach numerous lessons in the classroom.

As Egeria densa is considered a highly invasive species, it is highly recommended to choose Egeria najas instead, if it is available in your state or territory. This closely related plant looks very similar and can be used for all the same purposes as Egeria densa. Also offered are other alternative aquatic plants that are native to the United States such as Elodea canadensis, and Ceratophyllum demersum. Do not hesitate to reach out to our technical support team if you need any assistance in picking what plant would work best for your own unique needs.
