Erythrosin B is a red, anionic xanthene dye.
Erythrosin B has been used as a contrast or counterstain to hematoxylin,crystal violet and other nuclear stains, in both plant and animal tissue.
Soluble in methyl cellosolve (20 mg/mL); slightly soluble in ethanol (2 mg/mL); very slightly soluble in water (0.7 mg/mL). Soluble in 0.05% methanol to give clear orange solution, in ammonium hydroxide (1 mg/mL) giving clear solution. Also spirit soluble.
