Cellobiose is a disaccharide composed of two glucose molecules. These are β-1,4-glycosidically linked. It is reducing sugar, which is readily soluble in polar solvents such as water and ethanol. D-Cellobiose is a substrate of β-glucosidase.
- Refractive Index: 1.65 (Predicted)
- pKa: 12.39
Cell Culture media supplement. D-(+)-Cellobiose is used to differentiate bacteria based on carbohydrate fermentation abilities. It is a β-glucosidase substrate. Also used as as a chemical raw material and for foods, as a low-sweetness sugar.
Soluble in water 4% (clear colorless solution); insoluble in alcohol and ether.
